South Korea may approve crypto ETF

The Chairman of the Korea Exchange, Jeon Eun-bo, announced plans to consider approving cryptocurrency exchange-traded funds (ETFs) in 2025. Speaking at the opening ceremony for the 2025 securities and derivatives market, he emphasized the importance of diversifying the country’s financial sector by introducing alternative assets like crypto ETFs.

Jeon addressed the challenges faced by South Korea’s financial markets following a political crisis that wreaked havoc on the stock exchange. The turmoil intensified after President Yoon Suk-yeol’s failed attempt to declare martial law, which triggered a wave of asset sell-offs by investors.

To restore investor confidence, Jeon highlighted the need to leverage international experience in launching crypto ETFs as part of a broader strategy to rejuvenate the financial sector. “We will explore crypto ETFs and new opportunities in the capital markets to attract both domestic and global investors,” he stated, reaffirming his commitment to enhancing corporate value in the country.
