OANDA Japan announced changes to the trading schedule for certain instruments on September 2, 2024
OANDA Securities, a subsidiary of global online broker OANDA Corporation, announced changes to its trading schedule in conjunction with Labor Day (USA) on Monday, September 2, 2024. The changes will affect several key stock indices and commodity CFDs, with early closures and market halts scheduled in conjunction with the holiday.
Trading hours for several key stock indices will be changed on September 2. The following indices will close earlier at 2:00 a.m. Japan Standard Time (JST) on Tuesday, September 3:
- - JP225 (Japan Stock Price Index 225)
- - US100 (US 100 stock price index)
- - US500 (US 500 stock price index)
- - US2000 (US 2000 stock price index)
- - US30 (Wall Street US 30 stock price index)
The early close is intended to correspond with the reduced trading activity typically seen on US holidays, allowing traders to adjust their strategies accordingly.
In addition to stock indices, trading hours will also be changed for several commodity CFDs. The following commodities will have adjusted trading schedules, closing earlier on September 3:
- - UKOIL (Brent North Sea crude oil) - closing at 2:30 a.m. Japanese Standard Time
- - NATGAS (natural gas) - closes at 3:30 a.m. Japan Standard Time
- - USOIL (WTI crude oil) - closes at 3:30 a.m. JST
- - XAGUSD (silver) - closes at 3:30 a.m. Japan Standard Time
- - XAUUSD (gold) - closes at 3:30 a.m. Japan Standard Time
- - COPPER (copper) - closes at 3:30 a.m. Japan Standard Time.
In addition, trading in some commodity CFDs will be completely closed on Monday, September 3, including:
- - SUGAR (Sugar)
- - CORN (Corn)
- - SOYBEAN
- - WHEAT
The closure is due to expected low liquidity in the markets during the US Labor Day holiday, which usually leads to lower trading volumes and higher volatility.
OANDA Securities also warned traders of possible market fluctuations and rate deviations due to the holiday. Since the New York stock market will be closed on Labor Day, traders should be prepared for possible significant deviations from previous closing rates. The firm advises its clients to carefully manage their open positions and funds, as sudden market movements could result in forced settlements or stop losses.
