Trump says DeepSeek saves money for U.S. tech giants

On Friday, U.S. President Donald Trump and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang met at the White House to discuss the rise of Chinese AI firm DeepSeek and the tightening of export controls on artificial intelligence (AI) chips.

The meeting took place as the U.S. government prepares to impose additional restrictions on the export of advanced AI chips this spring. The new measures aim to safeguard cutting-edge computing capabilities for the U.S. and its allies while restricting China’s access to high-performance semiconductors.

Trump did not disclose details of the discussion but praised Huang, calling him a “gentleman.” “I can’t say what will happen. We had a meeting. It was a good meeting,” Trump remarked.

Nvidia later confirmed that the conversation focused on strengthening U.S. leadership in AI and technology. Huang and the president discussed the importance of maintaining America’s competitive edge in these rapidly evolving fields.
