TSMC shares drop 6% amid concerns over DeepSeek AI

Shares of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) tumbled on Monday as the Taiwanese stock market resumed trading after a week-long break.

The world’s largest contract chipmaker saw its stock plunge 6.6% in Taipei trading, dragging the broader TWII index down by 4.4%. The decline followed a sharp sell-off in global semiconductor stocks last week, fueled by concerns over China’s AI system, DeepSeek.

Other major tech stocks also faced heavy losses. Hon Hai Precision Industry, a key supplier for Nvidia, dropped nearly 10%, further reflecting investor anxiety over the future demand for AI chips.
